Women's Basketball Heads to Houghton and Alfred for E8 Action

BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Women's Basketball team (9-6, 5-1 E8) will begin a weekend road trip with a matchup against Houghton (11-3, 3-3 E8) on Friday, January 23rd at 5:30 PM. The Golden Eagles will then head to Alfred University (9-6, 3-3 E8) on Saturday at 2 PM.

Last Out Time: Brockport defeated SUNY Poly from Utica, 76-66, on Saturday, January 17th. The Green and Gold secured its third straight conference victory with the win. 

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste paced the Brockport scoring attack, leading all players with 17 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists. Jean-Baptiste was just as effective defensively, snatching a game-high four steals.

Mandy Brink provided another big outing for Brockport, dropping 15 points with a career-high six assists, adding eight rebounds. Brink added strong shooting from both three point range (3-7) and the free throw line (4-4).

Claire Turner commanded the paint for the Green and Gold, collecting 10 points and 10 rebounds in her first double-double performance as a Golden Eagle. Turner's 10 points marked a season-high, with her 10 rebounds serving as the game high.

Brianna Carey would build off a strong shooting outing against Utica, connecting from downtown three times (3-7) and finishing with 14 points. She provided another dynamic effort, adding a game-high six assists and four steals.

AOTW: Providing three excellent efforts on the week, Brianna Carey was named as the Empire 8 Co-Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Across three starts for the Green and Gold, Carey averaged 16 points, 2.6 steals, and 2.6 rebounds, providing a career-best outing in a 75-53 win over Utica last Friday. The Mechanicville, NY native was unstoppable from beyond the arc, making six of eight attempts from three for a career-high 24 points, adding three steals. In her first season with the Green and Gold, Carey has brought stability to the starting lineup, averaging 11.3 PPG, 2.3 SPG, and 2.7 RPG on excellent .449/.350/.788 shooting splits. Starting all 15 games for Brockport, Carey leads the squad in steals (35, E8 8th) and field goal percentage (44.9%, E8 7th), ranking within the top-10 of the conference in both categories. 

Crashing the Glass: In matchups against Keuka and SUNY Poly last week, the Golden Eagles set new single-game season best marks in the rebounding department. In Brockport's 20 point win over Keuka, the Green and Gold set new single-game team highs in total rebounds (56) and defensive rebounds (45). Against SUNY Poly, Brockport would finish with 56 total rebounds once again, setting a new single-game season high in offensive rebounding (27). Claire Turner leads the Golden Eagles with nine rebounds per game, with Stephanie Jean-Baptiste (5.5 RPG), and Mandy Brink (4.5 RPG) each adding to the rebounding efforts.

Scouting Houghton: The Highlanders are coming off a 85-41 win over Hartwick last Saturday, improving to 11-3 overall and 3-3 in Empire 8 play. The Golden Eagles have won all three head to head meetings, defeating Houghton,75-72, in the 2024-25 season.

Scouting Alfred: The Saxons are coming off a 64-49 loss to Russell Sage last Saturday, falling to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in Empire 8 play on the season. Brockport and Alfred have met 10 times since 1979, with the Golden Eagles winning five straight head-to-head matchups since the 2013-14 season.
