Golden Eagles Complete 2-0 Weekend with 75-70 Victory at Alfred

BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team completed a perfect 2-0 road trip this week, capping off the weekend with a commanding 75-70 victory over Alfred University on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles (7-10, 3-5 E8) dictated the tempo from the opening tip, maintaining the lead for over 37 minutes of the 40-minute regulation to secure the conference win.

How It Happened

Brockport wasted no time establishing control, utilizing a scorching first-half offensive display to build a double-digit cushion. The Green and Gold shot 56.6% (17-30) from the floor in the opening period while asserting their will on the glass, out-rebounding the Saxons 23-8. This dominance allowed Brockport to stretch their lead to as many as 17 points following a basket at the 2:49 mark of the first half.

The defensive unit was equally impressive, holding Alfred to just 34.4% shooting for the game, including keeping the Saxons under 40% in both halves. Continuing their trend of interior authority from the previous night's 52-point performance, Brockport registered 40 points in the paint while limiting Alfred to just 14.

Despite a late second-half push from the Saxons, the Golden Eagles' early efficiency and a total 45-35 rebounding advantage provided enough of a buffer to keep the lead intact.

Individual Standouts

Camron Dyer turned in a stellar performance off the bench, leading all scorers with 19 points—his second-highest output of the season. Dyer was highly efficient, shooting 66.7% (8-12) from the field and 2-of-4 from downtown. He rounded out his night by matching a team-high with eight rebounds and facilitating the offense with four assists.

Cameron Pownall continued his emergence as a major interior threat in the starting rotation. The freshman notched a season-high 17 points on a sharp 7-of-10 clip while snaring six rebounds. Pownall was particularly aggressive on the offensive glass, hauling in five offensive boards to generate critical second-chance opportunities.

Christian Amica provided a major lift in his starting role, proving to be a reliable weapon from the perimeter. Amica tallied 12 points and hit a team-high three triples on 50% shooting from beyond the arc. He also contributed defensively and on the glass with four rebounds.

Pharell Aybar was a disruptive force on both ends of the floor. Aybar recorded 10 points on 50% shooting while matching the team-high with eight rebounds. He also led the defensive effort with a team-high three steals and facilitated the transition game with three assists.

Omar White added eight points and three assists, while also providing a rim-protecting presence with one of the team's four blocks.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will return to The Vlog to continue Empire 8 action as they host Russell Sage College on Friday, January 30th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
