Women's Basketball Back Home for Play4Kay and Morgan's Message Games

BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Women's Basketball team (11-6, 7-1 E8) returns home to host Russell Sage (12-6, 7-2 E8) for Play4Kay on Friday, January 30th at 5:30 PM. Brockport will welcome Hartwick College (4-14, 1-8 E8) for Morgan's Message Game on Saturday, January 31st at 2 PM.

Play4Kay: Friday night is the annual Play4Kay game for the Golden Eagles, as they are one of many teams around the country participating in the yearly fundraiser. Started by Hall of Fame Coach Kay Yow from NC State, she began Play4Kay to bring communities together and honor cancer warriors in the fight against ALL cancers affecting women.
Uniting players, coaches, officials, and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses in competition, the Play4Kay initiative is the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation's largest fundraiser and plays a major role in the fight against cancer.

Last Outing: The Golden Eagles earned a 31-point win at Alfred, defeating the Saxons, 81-50, on Saturday, January 24th. The win marked the fifth consecutive victory for the Golden Eagles.

Mandy Brink could not be stopped, providing her best outing to date with a career high 24 points on efficient 60% shooting from beyond the arc (3-5). Brink did it all for the Green and Gold, dishing a game high six assists and finishing tied with Lila Lovgren for the team lead in rebounding with seven.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was just as effective, scoring 21 points (10-16 FG) on 60% shooting from deep (3-5 3PT), adding five rebounds, a block, and a steal in a well-rounded effort. Leading the conference in points per game (18.9), SJB has posted 20+ points with 5+ rebounds in three of her last four outings.

Ava Howie provided excellent minutes off the bench, scoring eight points (3-5 FG, 2-3 3PT) with three rebounds in just 10 minutes of action. Jackie Kozakiewicz did much of the same, scoring seven points (2-3 FG, 2-2 FT) with three assists and a rebound.

Casey Mahony played a season-high 20 minutes, providing a scrappy effort with six rebounds and a game high three steals.

AOTW: For the third time this season, Stephanie Jean-Baptiste was named Empire 8 Women's Basketball Co-Athlete if the Week. On the week, Jean-Baptiste averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and a steal per game, posting 20+ points with 5+ rebounds in three of her last four outings. Leading the Empire 8 conference in points per game (18.9), Jean-Baptiste ranks seventh in field goal percentage (43.5%) despite attempting the third most shots of all Empire 8 athletes (262). She is on pace to set new single-season career best marks in PPG (18.9), RPG (5.9),  FT% (80%), and total blocks (11)

Scouting Russell Sage: The Gators have jumped out to an excellent start, holding a 12-6 overall record with a 7-2 mark in conference play. In last years matchup in Albany, the Green and Gold secured a 84-67 victory.

Scouting Hartwick: The Hawks sit at 4-14 overall with a 1-8 record in Empire 8 play and will enter Brockport looking to snap a eight game losing streak. Brockport holds a 2-1 record against Hartwick since joining the Empire 8, winning last years meeting, 79-47.

Up Next: Brockport will host SUNY Geneseo for We Back Pat on Tuesday, Febuary 3rd at 5:30 PM.
