BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Women's Basketball team (13-6, 9-1 E8) defeated Hartwick (4-16, 1-10 E8) in the Morgan's Message Game, 81-46, on Saturday, January 31st. The Golden Eagles have won seven straight Empire 8 matchups following the 35-point win over the Hawks.
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led the way in a bounce back performance, leading all scorers with 19 points (9-16 FG), adding three offensive rebounds and a steal in 26 minutes of action.  Â
Claire Turner showcased her versatility in a near double-double effort, scoring nine points (3-4 FT) with a team high nine rebounds and four steals, adding three assists and two blocks in one of her best outings as a Golden Eagle. Turner set new season highs in steals (4), assists (3), and made free throws (3). Â
Peyton Maneri rounded out the double-digit scorers for Brockport, dropping 10 points (5-9 FG) with a team-high six assists, adding four rebounds and three steals in a well-rounded effort.
Brianna Carey would get the Golden Eagles going early, scoring the first five points of the opening quarter. Carey provided another strong effort, finishing with 12 points, two assists, and a steal for the Green and Gold. A late 6-0 Hartwick run would cut Brockport's lead to three late in the quarter, but a
Peyton Maneri layup in the final moments would give the Green and Gold a 15-10 lead entering the second quarter. The Golden Eagles defense was excellent in the first 10 minutes, holding the Hawks to just three made field goals (3-15).Â
Both offenses would find a groove in the second quarter, with each team shooting north of 40% from the floor (H:43.75%, B:45.45%). Brockport would find success in the paint, with layups from
Stephanie Jean-Baptiste (3),
Mandy Brink, and
Addy VanDewater giving the home team a 37-27 lead at the halftime break. Jean-Baptiste would power the offensive attack, scoring 11 points in the quarter.Â
Coming out of halftime, the Brockport offense would stay steady, shooting over 53% in the third quarter (8-15). The visitors would cut the lead to seven midway through the quarter, but the Golden Eagles would finish the quarter strong to take a 55-40 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The fourth quarter would see Brockport run away with the contest, scoring 26 points and holding Hartwick to just three made field goals (6pt).
Josie Wray (4pt),
Mallory Turner (6pt), and
Jackie Kozakiewicz (2pt) would all record made field goals, helping guide Brockport to the 81-46 victory.
Mandy Brink filled up the box score for Brockport, scoring eight points with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
The turnover margin told the story of the contest, with Brockport winning the battle 27-14 and scoring 27 points off turnovers.Â
