Brockport, NY — The Brockport women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory over Utica University on Friday afternoon at the Brockport Tennis Courts. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 5-5 overall on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 1-9.
Brockport opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Cara Vasile and Leah Banes earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Samantha Basovsky and Mackenzie King shut out Hannah Loebbaka and Andrea May, 6-0, at No. 2. Gianna Masker and Kathleen Rogers completed the doubles sweep with another 6-0 victory at No. 3.
The Golden Eagles continued their strong play in singles, winning five of the six matches. Banes earned a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, while King followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3. Basovsky added another straight-set victory at No. 4, defeating Alexis Brennan, 6-3, 6-1. Masker battled Andrea May through three sets at No. 5, ultimately securing a 6-2, 3-6, 7-2 victory. Katie Tabor rounded out the singles wins with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.
At No. 1 singles, Vasile battled Utica's Lyndsey Tiedemann through three sets. Vasile took the opening set, 6-2, before Tiedemann responded to take the second set, 6-1, and the third, 6-2.
The victory marks another strong step forward for the Golden Eagles, who have already surpassed their win total from last fall. Brockport opened the 2026 season with a 7-0 sweep of Fredonia and has added conference victories over Alfred and Cortland, including a major 4-3 victory over the Red Dragons. Brockport has also received strong individual performances throughout the lineup. Tabor has posted a 7-1 record in singles play, including a 3-0 mark in Empire 8 competition, while Masker has gone 6-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The doubles pairing of Masker and Rogers has also been a consistent force, posting a 5-3 record together.
