Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team dropped its Empire 8 opener Thursday night, falling 3-1 to the Hartwick Hawks at Lambros Arena in Oneonta. Set scores were 22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 18-25.
Brockport moves to 6-6 overall and 0-1 in Empire 8 play, while Hartwick improves to 7-7 overall and 2-0 in conference.
The Golden Eagles battled through four tight sets, hitting .128 as a team with 50 kills. Three Golden Eagles reached double-digit kills led by Kaylee Dickerson-Holly and Luba Butcher with 12 kills apiece. Ellie Cusmano added 11 kills while hitting .286.
Setter Kaitlyn Jewett ran the offense with 26 assists, while Elsie Logan anchored the defense with a team-high 18 digs and 3 service aces. Dickerson-Holly posted a double-double with 13 digs, and Butcher chipped in 11 digs.
Brockport took set two convincingly, 25-17, after hitting .065 and forcing Hartwick into -0.150 hitting in the frame. The Golden Eagles pushed late in sets three and four but Hartwick closed out both to claim the match.
Hartwick was led by Lucy Walker with 21 kills on .633 hitting.
Brockport had 8 aces and 78 digs as a team on the night.
The Golden Eagles hope to bounce back on Saturday, as they continue conference play with a 12pm start against Russell Sage on the road.
