Women's Basketball Celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day With 85-62 Win Over SUNY Poly

BROCKPORT, NY -  The Brockport Women's Basketball team (16-7, 12-2 E8) dominated SUNY Poly (7-16, 3-11 E8) on National Girls and Women in Sports Day, 85-62, on Friday, February 13th. The Golden Eagles have secured victories in 10 of their last 11 outings.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste paced the Brockport offense with strong efficiency, leading all scorers with 16 points (7-14 FG) on excellent 66% shooting from beyond the arc (2-3). Jean-Baptiste would add five rebounds, four assists, and a steal in a well-rounded outing for the Green and Gold.

Brianna Carey did much of the same for Brockport, dropping 11 points (4-8 FG) with five rebounds, four assists, and a steal in a dynamic effort.

Jackie Kozakiewicz provided one of her best outings off the bench for Brockport, making the most of her minutes. In just 14 minutes of action, Kozakiewicz would finish with 10 points (3-5), two rebounds, and a steal in a strong outing.

Peyton Maneri quietly shone for Brockport, finishing with eight points, five rebounds, five assists, and a team-high three steals.

Brockport would ride an excellent start to command control in the contest, overcoming an early 5-0 deficit. Across the final 7:32 of the first quarter, the Golden Eagles would soar to a 22-6 scoring run to take a 11 point lead into the second. Casey Mahony and Mandy Brink would each connect from beyond the arc in the quarter.

The Golden Eagle defense would take over the contest in the second quarter, holding the Wildcats to just four points on 11.7% shooting (2-17). Five points from Jackie Kozakiewicz and makes from Ava Howie, Addy VanDewater, Brink, and SJB would power the Brockport offense in the second.

Entering the third quarter up by 23 points, the Golden Eagles would embark on their best offensive quarter of the season. Despite excellent shooting from deep for SUNY Poly in the quarter (5-10, 3PT), Brockport would drop 32 points on scorching 64.7% shooting from the floor (11-17).

Bench scoring would guide Brockport in the second half, with Madison Misser, Lila Lovgren, and Mallory Turner all connecting from downtown. Misser played strongly off the bench, drilling her first two three-pointers of the season to finish with eight points, three rebounds, and two steals.

Despite a late Wildcat surge, Brockport's 33-point lead proved to be too large to overcome, with the Green and Gold cruising to a 23-point conference victory.

Claire Turner commanded the paint for Brockport, snatching a game-high 11 rebounds with three assists, two steals, and a block in a gutsy performance. Turner's effort was critical to the Golden Eagles' 57-33 edge on the glass.

Six different Brockport players finished with eight points or more, with 13 Golden Eagles recording a made field goal in a true team effort.

Up Next: Brockport will celebrate Senior Day against Utica on Saturday, February 13th at 2 PM.
