Golden Eagles Face Geneseo in Final Tune-Up Before E8 Tournament

BROCKPORT, NY – Riding the momentum of a six-game winning streak, the SUNY Brockport men's basketball team hits the road for their final regular-season test. The Golden Eagles (13-11, 9-6) travel to face SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday, February 17th, at 7:30 p.m. With a spot in the Empire 8 Tournament already secured, Brockport looks to improve its seeding before postseason play begins this weekend.

Senior Day Success

The Golden Eagles celebrated Senior Day in style this past Saturday, extending their winning streak with a definitive 76-65 victory over Utica University. Brockport ignited the home crowd from the tip, opening the contest with a staggering 17-0 run and holding the Pioneers scoreless for the first five and a half minutes.

Pharell Aybar fueled the offense with 16 points and six assists, while Jacob Oka anchored the interior with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double. The Green and Gold defense was the story of the night, holding Utica to just 26.5% shooting from beyond the arc and outscoring them 34-12 in the paint. The wire-to-wire win officially locked Brockport into the Empire 8 Tournament, where they currently sit in the six-seed.

Scouting the Knights

The regular season finale features a high-stakes rematch against SUNY Geneseo (15-9, 11-4). While the Knights sit near the top of the standings, history has favored the Golden Eagles recently; Brockport has won the last six matchups against Geneseo.

In their most recent meeting on February 3rd, Brockport outlasted the Knights in an 83-77 overtime thriller at The Vlog. However, the Knights enter Tuesday's contest with plenty of momentum of their own, currently riding a two-game winning streak after taking down 4th-seeded Utica and 5th-seeded SUNY Poly this past weekend.

E8 Outlook

Currently positioned in the sixth spot, a win on Tuesday would help solidify their bracket standing heading into conference play. A win for Brockport would secure the #5 seed for the Green and Gold; a loss and a Keuka win would drop Brockport to the #7 seed.

Up Next: Following the road finale at Geneseo, the Golden Eagles will turn their attention to the first round of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament on Saturday, February 21st. Their opponent and location have yet to be determined and will be finalized following the conclusion of Tuesday's conference slate.
