Webster, NY – The SUNY Brockport swim and dive program completed day one of the Empire 8 Championships on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles saw multiple medalists, podium finishers, and a pair of broken records on the first day of action at the Webster Aquatic Center.
Brendan Jardin-Reed had a big day on the 3-meter diving board for the Golden Eagles. With a score of 526.50, he earned a silver medal for second place and set a new school record.
The women's 400-yard medley relay team was also able to earn silver medals for their performance. The group of
Hannah Ramos,
Addy Martino,
Maddie Erhardt, and
Anna Lowe placed second with a time of 4:03.34.
Anna Lowe also snagged a bronze medal individually with her go in the women's 50-yard freestyle finals. Lowe clocked in at 24.12 for third place in the event.
Missing out on bronze medals by less than a second, the men's 400-yard medley relay squad still had a big day. Matt Cole, Anthony O'Leary, Erik Parkes, and Carter Lundin swam a new school record time of 3:33.06 for a fourth-place finish on the podium.
The Golden Eagles also scored valuable points from several other podium finishers from day one.
Alex Nicita swam a 4:54.64 to take fifth place in the men's 500-yard freestyle. On the women's side of the action,
Hannah Ramos jumped on the podium with an eight-place time of 5:25.96.
In the women's 200-yard individual medley,
Varshana Ramgulam swam a fast 2:13.19 to jump on the podium for fourth place. Freshman Anthony O'Leary clocked in at 1:58.82 in the men's race to take seventh.
Skylar King's 25.15 was enough for a podium finish as well, claiming eighth in the women's 50-yard freestyle.
With a day one total of 144 points, the Brockport women are holding on to second place heading into day two. The men's team sits at fourth with a total of 130 points so far.
Day two puts the Golden Eagles right back in the pool at the Webster Aquatic Center at 10am on Thursday for the start of the preliminary heats. The finals session is set to begin for day two of the E8 Championships at 5:30pm.
