Webster, NY – The Brockport swim and dive programs made history to finish out the Empire 8 Swim & Dive Championships. The Golden Eagles had their best combined finish in history, with both the men (641.5 points) and women (746.5 points) placing second at the conference championship meet.
Last year the women placed third and the men took fourth at the E8 Championships, showing strong improvement in Brockport's second season with the Empire 8 under the guidance of Head Coach Zach Wahl. The Golden Eagles earned more medals and another new school record on the final day of E8s.
With a time of 16:57.32, freshman
Alex Nicita hit the podium in fifth place in the men's 1,650 freestyle. In the women's 1,650 freestyle finals, it was Sarah Colwell (19:11.90) in seventh and Lydia Lapierre (19:21.23) in eighth place.
The first medal performance of Saturday was Anna Lowe's showing in the women's 100-yard freestyle finals. Clocking in at 53.34, the freshman took bronze with a third-place finish.
Brockport had two podium finishers for the men's 200-yard backstroke.
RJ Krupski finished seventh with a time of 2:02.08.
Matt Cole was close behind at 2:03.38 for eighth place.
Hannah Ramos and Sage Vadney both made the podium for their work in the women's 200-yard backstroke finals. Ramos took fifth place with a time of 2:10.47, which set a new school record for the event. Vadney's 2:11.27 was good for seventh place in the finals heat.
The squad saw another pair of swimmers make it to the podium in the men's 200-yard breaststroke.
Anthony O'Leary swam a sixth-place time of 2:11.06.
Liam Farrell placed eighth at 2:19.94.
The women pulled out a medal to go with three podium finishers in the 200-yard breaststroke. Addy Martino swam a fast 2:28.59 for third place and the bronze medal. Lindsey Spitz took fifth at 2:32.10 and Qian Rappazzo was eighth at 2:46.30.
Both Ashley Oswald and Brylee Weisenburg earned final podium spots in the women's 3-meter diving competition. Oswald placed fifth with a score of 399.30, while Weisenburg scored a 397.45 for sixth place.
Moving to the men's 400-yard freestyle relay, Brockport's group narrowly missed out on the bronze.

Erik Parkes clocked in at 3:13.02 for fourth place.
To finish out a whole week's worth of swimming, Brockport's 400-yard freestyle relay for the women claimed silver. Maddie Erhardt, Skylar King, Varshana Ramgulam, and Anna Lowe swam a 3:35.74 to place second in the event.
Overall, the Golden Eagles had a historic run at E8s both for the team and for many individuals. Brockport broke nine school records during E8s to go with medals across 15 different events in total (8 silver, 7 bronze).
While the swim season has now officially ended for the Golden Eagles, there will be three divers hitting the road to compete at regionals. Brendan Jardin-Reed, Ashley Oswald, and Brylee Weisenburg are off to Ithaca College for the NCAA Diving Regionals on February 27
th & 28
th.
