Winter Haven, FL – The SUNY Brockport softball team officially began the 2026 season on Monday with a pair of matchups at the DiamondPlex Softball Fields. Brockport fell to Concordia (TX) and New England to begin the year 0-2.
Brockport 1, Concordia (TX) 7 – Game 1 Final
Concordia went up early on in this one, scoring three runs in the first inning to go up 3-0. The Tornados added four more runs in the middle innings to hold a 7-0 lead going into the seventh.
The Golden Eagles executed a double steal with runners on first and third to manufacture their first run.
Lila Lovgren took second, which allowed
Isabella Moya to score on the throw. Unfortunately Brockport ran out of time late to mount a comeback, falling 7-1.
At the top of the Brockport lineup,
Natalie Faas went 1-for-3 and drew a walk as the leadoff hitter. In the two spot,
Maeve Brannigan was 1-for-3 as well on the day. The squad also got hits from
Caitlyn Dailey (1-3),
Paige Wentland (1-2), and
Reagan Myers (1-3).
Colleen Davis (L, 0-1) started at pitcher in the game one loss on Monday. She went 3.0 innings with one strikeout, two walks, and five earned runs allowed. Freshman
Makenna Hart made her collegiate pitching debut in relief. She went 3.0 innings, allowing two earned runs during her shift.
Brockport 4, U. New England 7 – Game 2 Final
In the second matchup of the day, it was Brockport this time around that got on the board first. After
Erin Dougherty drew a walk and stole second to leadoff,
Liana DeValder connected for an RBI single to give the team an early 1-0 lead.
New England was able to tie the game up at 1-1 in the second with an RBI double. In the third, the Golden Eagles added three more runs.
Emily Harrington hit a sac fly to score
Julia Hill from third. Then with runners in scoring position,
Caitlyn Dailey rocked a single to right which scored two more to make it a 4-1 lead.
In the fourth inning, the game was suspended for nearly an hour due to some lightning spotted in the area. When the game restarted, New England would take control. The Nor'Easters would tie the contest up 4-4 in the fifth. They then jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the sixth, creating the final tally on the board.
Hitting in the leadoff spot,
Erin Dougherty scored two runs in the game and drew four walks.
Caitlyn Dailey went 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.
Liana DeValder also had an RBI in a 1-for-3 effort on the day.
Emily Harrington knocked in a run as well, going 1-for-2.
Maeve Brannigan was 1-for-3 at the dish in the contest.
Liana DeValder (L, 0-1) got the start in her collegiate pitching debut. The freshman struck out nine in 5.2 innings of work, allowing five earned runs in a loss.
Hadley Alguire finished out the final 1.1 innings of the game, giving up no hits and no runs during her relief shift.
Down in Florida, the Golden Eagles have Tuesday off before another doubleheader on Wednesday. They will taken on UW-River Falls at 10am and NYU at 12:15pm back at the DiamondPlex Softball Fields.
