Rochester, NY - The Brockport Baseball team earned a regional non-conference victory over Rochester, 9-0, on Tuesday, March 24th. A consistent offensive performance and career-best outing from
Ben Yerina on the mound led Brockport to the shutout victory. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-13 on the season following the win.
Ben Yerina (W, 1-2) set the tone for the Golden Eagles, tossing a complete-game shutout with six strikeouts, allowing just five hits and one walk.
After a scoreless first inning,
James Dixon would put Brockport on the board, scoring
Michael Norton with an RBI single. Dixon would provide an excellent outing, going three-for-five at the plate with three RBIs. The Golden Eagles would double their lead in the third, seeing
Josh Indek score off a
Steven Merkel single to go ahead 2-0.
Brockport would stay steady at the plate, adding three runs in the fourth to go up 5-0. Another Dixon RBI hit would set the table for an RBI double from
Matthew Coon, who would score soon following a
Josh Indek RBI knock. Indek would reach base safely four times, going three-for-five (BB), with an RBI and a run scored.
The fifth inning would see
Michael Norton showcase his wheels, scoring Merkel with an RBI triple to put the Green and Gold up 6-0.
Evan Brock's sacrifice fly in the inning would score Norton for Brockport's seventh run.
James Dixon would drive in Norton with his third RBI single of the game for Brockport's eighth run in the top of the ninth, with a
Nick Mahar RBI groundout rounding out the scoring for Brockport.
Michael Norton provided a big day for Brockport, going two-for-three (2B, 3B) with three runs scored and an RBI.
Matthew Coon was ultra-effective at the plate, reaching base safely five times, going three-for-three (2BB) with a run scored and a RBI.
The Golden Eagles' 15 hits are tied for the most in a single game this season, with five Brockport players providing multi-hit efforts.
