Women's Lacrosse Downed on the Road by Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – Despite a late offensive surge led by Alivia Cross, the Brockport Women's Lacrosse team dropped its conference matchup against SUNY Geneseo, falling 14–7 on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles move to 5-4 overall on the season with a 1-1 mark in conference play.

How It Happened

Geneseo jumped out to an early lead, scoring two goals in the first two minutes of play. Brockport's Journey Naab answered midway through the opening frame with an unassisted tally to cut the deficit. However, the Knights capitalized on a man-down opportunity later in the quarter to take a 3–1 lead into the first break.

The second quarter proved to be a high-scoring affair. Hailey Lewkovich opened the period with a goal to bring Brockport within one. After Geneseo responded with two scores, Alivia Cross found the back of the net for her first of the day. The Knights then went on a 4–0 run, including another man-down goal, to extend their lead to 9–3. Tristan Davis managed to halt the momentum briefly, scoring an unassisted goal with just one second remaining in the half to make it 9–4 at halftime.

Geneseo maintained control in the third quarter, netting three unanswered goals to push the lead to 12–4.

Brockport found a spark in the fourth quarter behind the stick of Alivia Cross. Cross recorded a natural hat trick in the final frame, scoring three consecutive unassisted goals to bring the Golden Eagles within five at 12–7. Despite the late push, Geneseo added two late goals to secure the 14–7 victory.

The Golden Eagles held a significant advantage in draw controls, winning 15 compared to Geneseo's 8. However, the Knights led in ground balls (21–4) and total shots (35–20).

Up Next: Brockport will look to bounce back as they continue their road trip this weekend. The Golden Eagles travel to Utica to take on SUNY Poly on Saturday, April 4th, with draw control scheduled for 12 p.m.
