Flag Football Trounces Russell Sage to Complete Weekend E8 Sweep

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Brockport flag football team (5-2, 4-1 Empire 8) delivered a dominant performance on its home field, defeating Russell Sage (1-5, 1-5 E8) by a 50-6 margin. Backed by an explosive offensive effort and a stifling defensive showing, the Golden Eagles controlled the game from the opening drive.

Addy VanDewater paced the Brockport offense with a standout performance, recording five receptions for 156 yards and four touchdowns, including a 70-yard scoring play. The freshman has now recorded at least one touchdown reception in three consecutive Empire 8 contests.

Megan Gerber led the passing attack, throwing for 135 yards and four touchdowns while adding 44 rushing yards on five carries (8.8 yards per carry). Madison Beardsley was equally effective, totaling 129 passing yards and three touchdowns while leading the team with 90 rushing yards on 15 carries (6.0 yards per carry).

Brockport asserted control early, scoring three touchdowns and forcing a safety in the first quarter to take a 23-0 lead. Gerber connected with VanDewater on a 15-yard touchdown pass and found her for three total scores in the first half. The Golden Eagles' defense applied consistent pressure, forcing a safety late in the opening quarter.

The defense carried its momentum into the second quarter, holding Russell Sage scoreless in the first half while the offense added two more touchdowns to build a 36-0 advantage at halftime. Brockport's defense was opportunistic throughout, recording four interceptions on the day.

Russell Sage broke through with a touchdown in the third quarter, but Brockport responded with two additional second-half scores to maintain control. Beardsley led the offense in the second half, connecting with VanDewater and Hannah Roxstrom for touchdowns.

Defensively, Cymbri Jefferson led the Golden Eagles with nine flag pulls, while Ava Seelbach added six. Analysia Sosa recorded a sack, three flag pulls, and Lauren Cundra contributed three flag pulls, a tackle for loss, and two interceptions, returning them for a combined 60 yards. Roxstrom also made a significant impact on defense, recording two interceptions.
