Rochester, NY – Brockport softball stayed hot with a sweep on Wednesday against RIT on the road in non-conference action. The Golden Eagles have won nine of their last ten and now stand at 13-9 overall with a 9-1 E8 record.
Brockport 8, RIT 1 – Game 1 Final
Four Brockport batters had a multi-hit performance to start the day.
Julia Hill and
Caitlyn Dailey were both 2-for-5 with two runs batted in. Leadoff hitter,
Natalie Faas was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Paige Wentland got going with a 2-for-4 outing and one RBI.
Colleen Davis (W, 4-2) picked up a complete game victory at pitcher, allowing no earned runs. She had three strikeouts and just one walk, while also going 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk.
After each team got one run across in the first, the Golden Eagles stayed hot offensively and simultaneously shut down the RIT lineup. The Tigers wouldn't score the rest of the game, allowing Brockport to pull away.
Wentland hit an RBI single in the first to start the scoring. Then it was
Julia Hill in the second inning, knocking in a pair of runs with a double to left. In the third,
Liana DeValder pinch hit and brought a run in.
Erin Dougherty connected for an RBI single in the fifth to give the team a 6-1 lead. Finally in the seventh, two more runs came across thanks to a single from
Caitlyn Dailey.
Brockport 9, RIT 7 – Game 2 Final
Makenna Hart (W, 2-3) got the start in game two, earning the win after 4.0 innings of work in the circle.
Hadley Alguire stepped in to pitch 1.2 innings to help Brockport hold its lead in a tight game.
Colleen Davis finished out the final 1.1 innings in the circle to earn the save, her first of the season.
At the dish, the Brockport bats produced five doubles in the contest with three players having multi-hit games.
Caitlyn Dailey provided two doubles and two RBIs, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Batting 2-for-3,
Liana DeValder also scored two runs, had one double, and one RBI.
Paige Wentland knocked in three runs with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate that included a double.
Julia Hill (1-4, 2 runs) also hit a double in game two.
Dailey and Wentland both hit RBI doubles in the first inning to give Brockport a 3-0 lead. RIT tied the game up in the second, but Brockport responded quickly to regain an edge. Another RBI double from Dailey was paired with DeValder's RBI single, giving the Golden Eagles a 5-3 lead going into the fourth.
The RIT Tigers wouldn't go away, as they tied the game up once again in the bottom of the fourth. Tied at 5-5, Wentland hit an RBI single to center to break the tie and give Brockport a lead once more. Coming up clutch once again as a pinch hitter this season was
Aurora Sabins, who hit an RBI single to make it a 7-5 lead for Brockport. A 2-run homer for RIT tied the game again at 7-7, however, Brockport added a pair in the seventh to seal the win.
Getting back to conference play this weekend, Brockport is set to be home on Friday and away on Saturday. The Golden Eagles host St. John Fisher for a 3pm start to Pride Night. They then travel to Nazareth for a 1pm start to the road E8 matchup.
