Softball Drops Pair to St. John Fisher at Home

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team had its momentum slowed on Friday, dropping both games in an E8 doubleheader to St. John Fisher at home. Brockport is now 13-11 overall with a 9-3 mark in conference play.

Brockport 1, St. John Fisher 3 – Game 1 Final

To start the day, the fans saw a pitcher's duel that ultimately went St. John Fisher's way. Liana DeValder (L, 7-3) went the distance for Brockport, allowing two earned runs on four hits with eight strikeouts. Molly Kuhn (W, 12-4) gave up just one run and had 12 strikeouts for Fisher in a complete game win.

The visiting Cardinals put up two runs in the second inning, maintaining a 2-0 lead most of the way. In the fifth, Saylor Ayers put Brockport on the board with a solo home run to center. Ayers was 2-for-3 in the game at the plate and recorded her first career homer as a Golden Eagle. The home run made it a 2-1 game, but Fisher added another run in the sixth to create the 3-1 final for game one.

Brockport 2, St. John Fisher 8 – Game 2 Final

St. John Fisher put up a 3-run inning in the second to quickly take control of game two of this E8 doubleheader. Although Brockport responded with a run in the second, the Cardinals scored five more runs in the next few innings to stretch the lead. The Golden Eagles got one more across in the fourth, but Fisher held off any rally attempts on the way to an 8-2 win.

Saylor Ayers was 1-for-3 in the contest with an RBI. Both Liana DeValder and Colleen Davis were 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Natalie Faas went 1-for-3 in the leadoff spot, while Erin Dougherty was 1-for-2 with a stolen base.

Colleen Davis (L, 4-3) pitched the full game for the Golden Eagles in the loss. She gave up four earned runs through seven innings on nine hits.

The Golden Eagles look to bounce back on Saturday in a road matchup against Nazareth for another tough E8 doubleheader. First pitch of the day is scheduled for 1pm out in Rochester, NY.
