Men’s Lacrosse Dominates Russell Sage 14-4 in Largest Victory of the Season

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Brockport Golden Eagles men's lacrosse team turned in its most complete performance of the season on Saturday afternoon, earning a decisive 14-4 victory over the Russell Sage Gators in Empire 8 action. With the win, Brockport improves to 3-12 overall and 3-4 in conference play, snapping a four-game skid while matching its season high in goals and recording its largest margin of victory of the year.

Brockport controlled play from the outset, outshooting Sage 50-23 and holding a 29-19 edge in ground balls. The Golden Eagles' defensive pressure forced 26 turnovers while committing just 12, and the team was flawless in transition, converting all 16 of its clear attempts.

How It Happened

The Golden Eagles seized momentum early with a dominant opening quarter, racing out to a 5-0 lead. Riley Alexander opened the scoring at 13:51 off an assist from Jamie DaSilva. Brockport then erupted for four goals in a span of under two minutes, as Patrick Donahoe scored unassisted (11:12), followed by goals from Brenden McClay (10:46), DaSilva (10:01), and McClay again (9:13).

Brockport continued its offensive surge in the second quarter, outscoring Sage 7-2 to carry a 12-2 advantage into halftime. Donahoe, Austin Thornhill, and Jared Hazen each scored within the first four minutes of the period, while DaSilva and Vincent Savastano extended the lead to 10-0. The Gators responded with two goals, but late scores from DaSilva and Daniel Stiles restored a 10-goal cushion at the break.

The pace slowed in the second half as both defenses settled in. Pierson Jacobs netted the lone goal of the third quarter at 6:22. In the fourth, Hazen added his second goal of the day at 14:33 to complete Brockport's scoring, while Sage recorded two late goals.

At the faceoff X, Cody Whitaker was instrumental in controlling possession, winning 14 of 18 draws while collecting a game-high eight ground balls.

Defensively, Austin Thornhill anchored the effort with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, helping limit Sage's opportunities.
