Brockport, NY – The Brockport women's lacrosse team traveled to face Russell Sage College on Friday afternoon, earning a decisive 15–3 Empire 8 victory. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Brockport set the tone early, erupting for 10 unanswered goals in the first half against the Gators. Hailey Lewkovich opened the scoring off an assist from Emily Schiffer. Alivia Cross added two first-quarter goals, while Karaline McCarthy converted a free-position opportunity between Cross's tallies. Late in the quarter, Amanda Evans capitalized on a free-position attempt to give Brockport a five-goal advantage heading into the second.
Evans carried that momentum into the second period, scoring again on a free-position shot. Schiffer followed with a goal off an assist from Evans, and McCarthy added another to extend the lead. Anna Lowe then found the back of the net on a pass from Schiffer, before Lewkovich finished a feed from Lowe, sending Brockport into halftime with a commanding 10-goal cushion.
Out of the break, Payton Tyszka recorded her first goal of the game off a Schiffer assist, and Ciara Pogue followed with a goal of her own. Russell Sage briefly halted the run with its first score, but Lewkovich responded with a free-position goal to close the third quarter.
The Gators opened the fourth with two free-position goals, but Brockport answered down the stretch. Schiffer added another goal, assisted by Lewkovich, and Journey Naab capped the scoring with a goal off a pass from Cross to secure the 15–3 final.
Schiffer led the Golden Eagles with five points on two goals and three assists. Lewkovich finished with four points (three goals, one assist), while Evans and Cross each totaled three points with two goals and one assist apiece. Lowe contributed one goal and one assist, and Tyszka, Pogue, and Naab each added a goal.
Defensively, Arianna Reed and Marion Wheeler split time in goal, with Reed recording one save.
Brockport returns to action on Wednesday, April 22, hosting Nazareth University at 4 p.m. for Professor Appreciation Day. The Golden Eagles will then travel to face Keuka College on Saturday, April 25, at 12 p.m.
