Brockport, N.Y. — The Brockport women's flag football team (2-2, 1-1 E8) dropped a 21-13 decision to SUNY Geneseo (4-3, 2-1 E8) in the program's Inaugural home opener at Bob Boozer Field on Wednesday, April 1. Despite entering halftime trailing by just one point and delivering a strong defensive effort, the Golden Eagles were held scoreless in the second half as the Knights secured a key Empire 8 victory.
Geneseo struck quickly, capitalizing on a Brockport turnover on downs with a one-play touchdown drive to take a 7-0 lead. Following a pair of stalled drives by both teams, Brockport responded in a big way.
Quarterback Madison Beardsley connected with Trelani Harper for a 15-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to one, though the one-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful (7-6). The duo linked up again later in the half for another touchdown, and a successful conversion gave Brockport a 13-7 advantage.
The Knights answered late in the second quarter, scoring to reclaim a 14-13 lead heading into halftime. Geneseo added the only points of the second half on a special teams touchdown, while both offenses struggled to find consistency. Brockport had multiple opportunities deep in the red zone but was unable to convert, ultimately coming up short on its home field.
Beardsley led the Golden Eagles offensively, completing 17-of-24 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns while adding 45 rushing yards on four carries.
Megan Gerber paced the ground game with 86 yards on 16 carries, including a long run of 21 yards. She also contributed in the passing game with a team-high seven receptions for 32 yards, totaling 180 all-purpose yards.
