ELMIRA, N.Y. — The Brockport Golden Eagles women's flag football team (3-2, 2-1 Empire 8) bounced back with a decisive 31-6 victory over the Elmira Soaring Eagles (2-2, 0-2 E8) on Friday, April 3. A standout performance from quarterback Madison Beardsley, combined with three shutout quarters from the Brockport defense, powered the Golden Eagles to the conference win.
Beardsley delivered her strongest outing of the season, completing 22-of-34 passes for 203 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. The freshman also led Brockport on the ground, totaling 91 rushing yards on 18 attempts (5.1 yards per carry). Addy VanDewater emerged as a primary target, finishing with five receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns.
Brockport wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Beardsley connected with VanDewater on a 57-yard touchdown pass on the opening drive to take a 6-0 lead. The Golden Eagles' defense set the tone early, with Karina Rozhevenko recording a sack on Elmira's ensuing possession.
Rozhevenko turned in a dominant performance, finishing with a team-high 15 tackles (14 solo), six tackles for loss, and six sacks.
Holding a 6-0 lead entering the second quarter, Brockport added two more touchdowns before halftime to take a 19-0 advantage into the break. Beardsley found Megan Gerber for an 18-yard touchdown reception early in the quarter, and Gerber later added a two-yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead.
The Golden Eagles continued their strong play in the second half, adding a touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters. Beardsley connected again with VanDewater and Gerber for scores, while the Brockport defense maintained control. Elmira broke up the shutout late, but the outcome was never in doubt.
Defensively, Jaianna Byrd recorded seven flag pulls and two pass breakups. Ava Seelbach and Cymbri Jefferson each added seven flag pulls, with six solo stops apiece.
Trelani Harper contributed on special teams with three punts totaling 108 yards, including a long of 51 yards, pinning Elmira inside the 20-yard line twice.
Lauren Cundra added an interception and two tackles, while Victoria Slye-Butz recorded a forced fumble.
