Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 2 Geneseo in Empire 8 Semifinal

GENESEO, N.Y. — After a dominant quarterfinal performance earlier in the week, the Brockport Golden Eagles women's lacrosse saw its 2026 campaign come to a close Thursday afternoon. Traveling to face No. 2-seeded SUNY Geneseo Knights women's lacrosse, the Golden Eagles were unable to overcome a high-powered Knights offense, falling 15-8 in the Empire 8 Championship Semifinals.

Brockport opened the scoring early when Amanda Evans converted a free-position shot to give the Green and Gold a 1-0 lead. Geneseo responded with a clinical first half, scoring six goals in the first quarter and six more in the second.

The second quarter proved equally challenging. Evans added another goal on a man-up opportunity, and Hailey Lewkovich scored to contribute to the first-half effort. Still, Geneseo's Rosemary Mahoney and Lila Warner led the surge, pushing the lead to 12-3 at halftime.

The Golden Eagles found their rhythm in the second half. In the third quarter, Lewkovich and Tristan Davis each scored to help Brockport keep pace. The Golden Eagles then showcased defensive grit and offensive persistence in the final 15 minutes, shutting out Geneseo 3-0 in the fourth quarter. Late goals from Evans, Alivia Cross, and Lewkovich narrowed the gap, but Geneseo's early lead proved too much to overcome.

Arianna Reed and Marion Wheeler combined for six saves in goal, while Journey Naab anchored the defense with four ground balls and four caused turnovers.

The intensity of the postseason was evident in the penalty count, as the teams combined for 11 cards. Brockport was assessed four cards, while Geneseo received seven, reflecting the physical nature of the semifinal.

The loss ends Brockport's pursuit of an Empire 8 title. The Golden Eagles finished the 2026 season with a 12-6 overall record and a 7-2 mark in conference play.
