Golden Eagles Shine on Opening Day of Empire 8 Championships

Brockport, N.Y. — The Brockport men's and women's outdoor track and field teams concluded day one of the Empire 8 Championships with an impressive showing, recording numerous top finishes across the opening day of the two-day competition.

Men's Team

Track Events:
Connor Couperus delivered a strong performance in the 3000m steeplechase, posting an All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) qualifying time of 9:49.35 to finish 10th overall.

Ayden Grinion highlighted the 400m, crossing the finish line in an AARTFC qualifying time of 48.85 to secure a fifth-place podium finish. Michael Durski followed with a seventh-place result, also meeting regional standards with a time of 49.28.

Brockport's 4x800 relay team of Frank Callhoun, Brayden Mahoney, Eduardo Salinas, and Timothy Smith captured first place, setting a new meet record and achieving an AARTFC qualifying time of 7:54.11.

Jared Smith led the distance events with a dominant performance in the 10000m, earning the conference title with a regional qualifying time and meet record of 31:00.92. JJ Montemaro also reached the podium, placing eighth with an AARTFC qualifying time of 32:13.87.

Field Events:
Gabriel Giannini headlined the field events with a first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 4.98m to meet AARTFC qualifying standards.

Giannini continued his standout day with a second-place finish in the long jump, recording a regional qualifying distance of 7.22m. Dennis Bobbitt placed third at 6.96m, while Colin Dicks secured sixth with a qualifying mark of 6.85m. Adam Curtis added an eighth-place finish at 6.60m.

In the hammer throw, Hunter Richards recorded a fifth-place finish with an AARTFC qualifying mark of 50.15m. The javelin saw Brockport dominate, as Allen Reome claimed first place with a throw of 47.43m, followed closely by Giannini in second at 47.16m.

Women's Team

Track Events:
Madison Kirkpatrick opened the day with a seventh-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking in at 11:58.61.

The 4x800 relay team of Aaliyah Wright, Lily Pink, Camryn Jacob, and Maeve Robarge earned a podium finish, placing third with an AARTFC qualifying time of 9:36.35.

In the 10000m, Salma Moumen and Hailey Morrison secured sixth- and seventh-place finishes, respectively, both achieving regional qualifying times of 39:14.04 and 39:25.07.

Field Events:
Madison Kirkpatrick added to her day with a fifth-place finish in the javelin, recording a throw of 30.24m. Bella Rivera placed eighth with a mark of 28.32m, while Rhian Crowley earned a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw at 44.63m.

Isabel Swyers secured a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing an AARTFC qualifying height of 3.56m.

The Golden Eagles return to action for day two of the Empire 8 Championships on Saturday, May 2, with competition set to begin at 10 a.m. at St. John Fisher.
