Stephanie Jean Baptiste

Women's Basketball Adam Card

Inside the Locker Room - On the Court with Stephanie Jean-Baptiste

We had the pleasure of speaking with Stephanie Jean-Baptiste, a remarkable guard on the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles Women's Basketball team. A key contributor to one of the most successful stretches in program history, Jean-Baptiste has earned recognition as the Empire 8 Player of the Year, WBCA All-American, D3hoops All-Region, and All-Conference, among countless other accolades. Known for her leadership, versatility, and impact on both ends of the floor, she has played a major role in the success of the Golden Eagles throughout her career. We asked Jean-Baptiste a series of questions to gain insight into topics such as team culture, balancing life as a student-athlete, and more.

Below you will find the interview we conducted with Stephanie Jean-Baptiste for the Brockport Athletics Alumni Newsletter.

Personal Introduction

Can you introduce yourself—your name, major, hometown, and what year you are on the team?
"My name is Stephanie Jean-Baptiste, I majored in sociology with a minor in criminal justice. I'm from Jersey City New Jersey."

Why Brockport?

What made you choose SUNY Brockport, and what do you love most about being part of this program?
"Brockport had more of a community/family vibe compared to other schools I visited. That is what made me pick this program."

Team Culture

How would you describe your team's culture?
"We all value one another's effort and hold each other accountable. Our team culture is also big on communication and respect."

What makes being part of this group special?

"I think getting to compete everyday and know your teammates have your back is the special part."

Memorable Moment

What has been your most memorable moment as a Golden Eagle —on or off the court?
"My most memorable moment was hosting the championship game in 2024-25 season regardless of the outcome. Being able to bring Brockport women's basketball back to championship standard. Also setting the single game scoring record!"

Balancing It All

How do you balance academics, athletics, and your life outside of sports?
"The biggest part of balancing is having hobbies and friends outside your sport. Your sport is just a piece of you, not your whole identity!"

Leadership & Growth

In what ways have you grown as a student-athlete during your time at Brockport?
"I feel like I have grown in communicating and having the confidence to advocate for myself."

Behind-the-Scenes Look

What's something fans or alumni might be surprised to learn about your team's routines, traditions, or preparation?

"Something fans might be surprised to learn is how much preparation happens away from games. Our team spends a lot of time watching film, scouting opponents, and focusing on recovery and nutrition in addition to practices. The work that goes on behind the scenes is a big part of what helps us perform on game day."

Looking Ahead

What are your goals for the rest of the year—academically, athletically, or personally?
"My biggest goal for the rest of the year is to become the best version of myself every day. Whether it's in my career, personal life, or athletics, I want to continue growing, learning, and challenging myself. I believe success comes from consistently showing up, putting in the work, and striving to be better than I was the day before."

Message to Alumni

What would you like to share with Brockport alumni who continue to support Golden Eagle Athletics?
"I'd like to thank all of the Brockport alumni who continue to support Golden Eagle Athletics. Your support means a lot to our student-athletes and helps create opportunities for them to compete at a high level. Knowing that there are alumni who still care about the program and want to see us succeed is something that is truly appreciated."
