BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Brockport men's soccer team battled No. 14 Hobart College at home on Tuesday, September 15th, but ultimately came up short, 2-1. The Golden Eagles hung tough against one of the nation's top teams, but a Hobart goal in the final minutes thwarted Brockport's upset bid.
Outside of a pair of shots from Khadim Amar, the Statesmen controlled the opening half. Hobart generated a pair of scoring chances within the first 20 minutes, but AJ Nelson kept the game level early.
The Statesmen broke through in the 21st minute when Weldon Arner found the back of the net off a corner kick to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles would limit Hobart to just one corner kick for the remainder of the contest.
Antonio Wilson and Ryan Mathis each looked to bring Brockport level, but Rochester keeper Jake Hans kept the Statesmen in front.
With under two minutes remaining in the opening half, Khadim Amar shifted the momentum in Brockport's favor heading into halftime. Amar scored a clutch goal at the 43:40 mark, with Mathis and Trevor Lagarde credited with assists, sending the teams into the break tied at 1-1.
Hobart controlled play in the second half, holding Brockport without a shot over the final 45 minutes. The Golden Eagles continued to battle, with Nelson coming up with a big stop to keep the score tied at 1-1.
In the 84th minute, Hobart capitalized on a Brockport miscue, burying a free kick for what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
Nelson kept the Golden Eagles within striking distance throughout the contest, making a season-high six saves.
Amar led all players with three shots and scored Brockport's lone goal.
Greg Ramin, Parker Warren, Trevor Lagarde, and Ryan Mathis each played 90 minutes for the Green and Gold.
