BROCKPORT, NY — The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team capped off Homecoming Weekend in dominant fashion on Saturday, shutting out SUNY Poly 3-0 at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. The victory featured Youth Soccer Day and a special tribute honoring the alumni of the 1973 Brockport men's soccer team.
The Golden Eagles came out aggressive from the opening whistle, generating quick offensive chances and breaking the ice early in the opening half. In the 10th minute,
Trevor Lagarde whipped in a precise corner kick, finding
Aiden Johnson who headered home the game's opening goal to put Brockport ahead 1-0. Just over four minutes later, Lagarde generated another scoring opportunity, setting up
Khadim Amar for his fourth goal of the season at the 13:32 mark to double the Golden Eagle advantage heading into halftime.
Brockport carried its momentum right into the second half, striking again in the 53rd minute.
Jadin Lyle slipped a pass through to
Kyle Milburn, who slotted a shot past the keeper to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Defensively, the Green and Gold controlled the pitch throughout, holding SUNY Poly to just five total shots and four on goal. Goalkeeper
AJ Nelson anchored the backline, turning away all four shots on target across 90 minutes to secure the clean sheet.
Parker Warren played a team-high 84 field minutes to lead the backline, while
Finn Sullivan (83 mins), Amar (80 mins),
Greg Ramin (80 mins), and Lagarde (80 mins) all logged heavy minutes in the victory.
Brockport controlled the tempo on attack, outshooting the Wildcats 15-5 overall and 7-4 in shots on goal. Johnson,
Ryan Mathis, and
Peter Tinaj spearheaded the offense with three shots apiece, while Johnson registered a team-high two shots on target.
