Field Hockey Defeats Oneonta 1-0 for Alumni Appreciation Game

BROCKPORT, NY — The Brockport field hockey team celebrated its Alumni Appreciation game and the 50th year of the program with a 1-0 victory over SUNY Oneonta on Friday night at Dr. Linda Arena Field. The win marks the Golden Eagles' third straight victory as they improve to 5-1 on the season.

Brockport controlled much of the tempo through the early periods. The Green and Gold generated pressure in the second frame with five penalty corners, but Oneonta goalkeeper Eva Klessel turned away three shots to send the game into halftime scoreless.

The Golden Eagles finally broke the deadlock late in the third period off a penalty corner insertion at the 43:29 mark. Olivia McClaine found the back of the cage for the game-winning tally, set up by an assist from Emily Nestor.

Oneonta made a desperate push in the final quarter, earning four penalty corners and firing five shots toward the cage. Brockport's defense held firm under pressure, anchored by Lauren Mastromarco, who turned away four fourth-quarter shots as part of a 6-save performance to secure her second consecutive 60-minute clean sheet.

In total, Brockport held an 11-9 advantage in shots and earned 10 penalty corners to Oneonta's 8.

Emily Nestor finished with a shot on net to go with her assist on Brockport's lone goal.

Elise Brady finished with a team-best two shots on goal, tied with Olivia McClaine (G).
