The visiting Knights controlled much of the first half, outshooting Brockport 3-1 and earning six corner kick opportunities compared to none for the Golden Eagles. AJ Nelson kept Geneseo off the scoreboard, making two first-half saves to keep the match level. Trevor Lagarde recorded Brockport's lone shot of the opening half, giving the Golden Eagles their only scoring chance before the break.
Brockport's offense came to life in the second half, firing eight shots, with four resulting in scoring chances. Kyle Milburn and Khadim Amar each looked to break the deadlock, but two key saves from Geneseo goalkeeper Max Crothall kept the Green and Gold off the scoreboard. The Golden Eagles also flipped the corner-kick battle in their favor, earning four while limiting Geneseo to one in the final 45 minutes.
After a back-and-forth second half, the Golden Eagles capitalized on a Geneseo miscue. Following a free kick, Max Maouris buried a feed from Ryan Mathis, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and giving Brockport the game-winning goal. The clutch finish marked Maouris' first goal as a Golden Eagle.
Despite a late scoring opportunity from the Knights, Nelson stood tall once again, securing the Empire 8 victory for the Golden Eagles.
Nelson (W, 3-3) was excellent in the win, making four saves to record back-to-back clean sheets. After a 1-3 start to the season, Nelson has found his stride in conference play, posting a 2-0 record while stopping the last eight shots he has faced.
Peter Tinaj and Trevor Lagarde led the way with two shots each, while Lagarde, Greg Ramin, Parker Warren, and Ryan Mathis played the duration of the contest.
