BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team secured a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 27-25, 25-22) over Buffalo State on Friday afternoon at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym. With the victory, the Golden Eagles improve to 6-3 overall on the season.
Brockport out-killed Buffalo State 38 to 34 while hitting .221 as a team. Outside hitter
Kaylee Dickerson-Holly anchored the offense, putting down a match-high 12 kills on a .235 hitting percentage to go along with four digs.
Luba Butcher filled up the stat sheet, posting seven kills, two service aces, and nine digs.
Maddy Howell dominated at the net with six kills (.400 hitting percentage) and four total blocks (one solo, three assists), while
Ellie Cusmano added five kills.
Setters
Kaitlyn Jewett and
Ava Baty efficiently orchestrated the two-setter offense, dishing out 15 and 13 assists, respectively. Jewett was lethal from behind the service line, dropping five of Brockport's nine total aces.
Defensively, libero
Elsie Logan led the back-row effort with a team-high 10 digs.
The Golden Eagles set the tone early in the opening frame, swinging at a sharp .367 clip with 14 set kills to claim the first set, 25-20. The second set proved to be a back-and-forth battle featuring seven tie scores and two lead changes, but Brockport outlasted the Bengals 27-25 in extra points to take a 2-0 match lead. The Green and Gold sealed the sweep in the third set, hitting .270 and holding Buffalo State to 13 kills to close out the 25-22 victory.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles hit the road tomorrow for the Cortland Invite. Brockport will square off against host SUNY Cortland at 12:00 PM before closing out the day against Williams College at 2:30 PM.
