BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Brockport field hockey team powered past SUNY Morrisville with a 6-2 home victory on Tuesday evening. Playing in front of a home crowd for their Pediatric Cancer Awareness Game, the Golden Eagles showcased a relentless team attack to push their overall record to 8-2 on the season.
Morrisville managed to strike first midway through the opening period when Lilly Bagg found the back of the net at 10:39. Brockport quickly responded in the second quarter to tie the score, as
Cassidy Pado converted an assist from
Elise Brady at the 20:48 mark to send the contest into halftime locked at 1-1.
The Green and Gold grabbed momentum early in the third period when
Penelope Schalck buried a feed from
Laela Osinski at 31:29 to give Brockport its first lead of the night. After Morrisville equalized at 2-2 late in the frame, Brady answered less than two minutes later, converting another setting pass from Osinski at 44:43 to put Brockport ahead 3-2 heading into the final quarter.
Brockport dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 3-0 to secure the win.
Alexis Penree expanded the cushion to 4-2 at 47:49 off an assist from Schalck. Just two minutes later, Schalck notched her second goal of the evening at 49:48, set up by
Kaitlyn Malinowski. Brady capped off the dynamic performance at 58:36 with her second goal of the game off an assist from
Clare Devine, sealing the 6-2 victory.
Brady and Schalck led the Brockport attack with two goals and an assist apiece, while Penree and Pado each added a goal in the balanced team win.
Laela Osinski helped facilitate the offense with a game-high two assists. Making her first collegiate start in cage, freshman goalkeeper
Julia Nieboer turned in a standout performance, recording a career-high 10 saves across 60 minutes to anchor the Golden Eagles' defense.
