Brockport, NY – The women's soccer team came from behind to defeat Alfred University, 2-1, in an Empire 8 matchup. The Golden Eagles improve to 8-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in conference play, while Alfred falls to 1-7-3 overall and 0-5-2 in Empire 8 play.
Alfred opened the scoring early, converting a penalty kick in the fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead. Brockport responded in the 16th minute when Kaitlyn Spring found the back of the net to even the match at 1-1. Emily McCane then came up with a big save on another Alfred penalty kick in the 16th minute to keep the game tied heading into halftime.
The Golden Eagles came out of the second half with pressure and took their first lead of the afternoon in the 49th minute. Amelia Breton scored her second goal of the match to put Brockport ahead, 2-1. Brockport maintained its advantage throughout the remainder of the contest to secure the Empire 8 victory.
Brockport controlled the offensive attack, finishing with a 20-5 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. The Golden Eagles also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Breton led the team with eight shots and one goal, while Alana Yahoudy added four shots, including three on target. Spring finished with one goal and one shot on goal. In goal, McCane played all 90 minutes and recorded one save.
With the victory, Brockport remains unbeaten in Empire 8 play at 4-0-1.Â
