Brockport, NY – The Brockport men's soccer team (2-2) came up short in home opener action against Buffalo State (2-1-1) on Tuesday, September 8th. Despite jumping in front by multiple goals, the Bengals would control the remainder of the contest to steal the regional win.
Less than 12 minutes into the first half,
Khadim Amar would find the back of the net for the second time this season, putting Brockport up 1-0 at the 11:28 mark.
Finn Sullivan and
Trevor Lagarde would provide assists on the opening goal.
Brockport would double its lead less than seven minutes later, with
Max Maouris finding
Ryan Mathis to double the Golden Eagle edge at the 18:01 mark. After controlling the first 30 minutes of the match, the visitors would flip the momentum going into halftime.
Buffalo State would net two goals across eight minutes late in the first half, taking momentum and tying the game at 2-2 entering halftime. The Bengals would ride a 10-3 shot edge in the second half to take control of the contest.
Following multiple
AJ Nelson saves, the Bengals would break the scoreless tie in the 82nd minute, jumping ahead 3-2. Despite late scoring chances from
Kyle Milburn and
Ryan Mathis, the Buffalo State defense would stand tall to secure the 3-2 regional victory.
Mathis would lead Brockport shooters with five shots on goal, with
Aiden Johnson and Jamie Joel adding shots for the Golden Eagles.
AJ Nelson was strong in defeat, making six saves to lead all goalkeepers.
