Brandon Miller joined the Brockport football coaching staff in 2017 after spending one season coaching at fellow Empire 8 member Utica College. He will be primarily responsible for working with linebackers.
Linebacker University
Since his arrival in 2017, the Golden Eagle linebackers have earned five spots on all-region teams. Matt Szymanski was a two-time All-Region pick (2017-2018), while Alex West earned three straight All-Region selections (2017-2019). West finished his career ranked second all-time in career sacks at Brockport. Brockport has landed nine linebackers on all-conference teams in the last three years. In each of the past three seasons three linebackers have earned All-Conference status under the guidance of Miller and defensive Coordinator Mike Fox.
Nationally-Renowned Rushing Defense
Brockport’s blitz-heavy defensive scheme installed by Coach Fox has led the league in rushing defense and scoring defense in each of the three seasons that Miller has been on the staff. Over the course of the past two seasons the Brockport defense has led the entire NCAA in rushing defense.
Undefeated Effort
Since Miller has joined the staff, the Brockport football program has experienced it’s most successful run in program history. Miller has been a part of three consecutive Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year honors following three straight Empire 8 Championships and three automatic NCAA Division III Championship berths.
Over the course of the last three years, the Golden Eagles have racked up an incredible 23 victories and advanced to at least the NCAA Sweet 16 in each season. This three year run with Miller includes two undefeated regular seasons (2017, 2018) and a 19 game Empire 8 winning streak.
Welcome to Brockport
Miller’s first season with Brockport proved to be a huge success, as the Golden Eagle linebackers helped lead the green and gold to their best season in program history with an appearance in the 2017 NCAA Final Four and a 13-1 overall record. Brockport led the nation with 63 team sacks, leading the second place teams by more than 20 sacks. They also finished the year ranked third nationally in rushing defense, allowing just 54 yards-per-game on the ground.
Prior to Brockport
While at Utica College, Miller worked with a defensive unit that allowed less than 24.0 points per game, racking up 24 sacks and 17 interceptions in ten games played.
Playing Career
A 2015 graduate of St. John Fisher College, Miller played under defensive coordinator Mike Fox for the Cardinals. In his senior season, he racked up 103 tackles, and 6.5 sacks and was named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team while also earning D3football.com All-Region distinction.
