Mike Salerno - Brockport football assistant coach

Michael Salerno

Michael Salerno joined the SUNY Brockport Football staff in the spring of 2026 as an assistant coach, working primarily with the Golden Eagles’ wide receivers.

Salerno brings a dynamic offensive background and a proven track record of developing high-level passing attacks and elite skill position players. Prior to Brockport, he served at Bethel University, where he held roles as quarterbacks coach, co-offensive coordinator, wide receivers coach, and pass game coordinator. During his tenure, he helped elevate the passing offense significantly—improving production by over 300 total yards and more than 60 yards per game—while also mentoring All-Conference performers and contributing to impactful recruiting efforts.

Salerno also coordinated special teams at Bethel, leading notable improvements across multiple units, including a 41% increase in field goal efficiency and enhanced kick return performance.

Before Bethel, Salerno spent two seasons at Illinois College, where he served as wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator. In 2023, he played a key role in building one of the most explosive offenses in Division III, helping Illinois College finish with the nation’s top passing offense and second-ranked total offense, while capturing its first conference championship in 127 years. The following season, his offense led all levels of college football in total offense, passing yards, and scoring.

Salerno has coached multiple All-Americans and All-Conference selections, including record-setting wide receiver Collin Brunstein, who led all divisions in receiving yards and touchdowns and went on to sign professionally.

A former student-athlete at Southern Methodist University, Salerno played safety and kicker for the Mustangs. He earned a full athletic scholarship during his career and was a multi-year member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.

Salerno holds dual degrees in Finance and Sport Management from SMU and brings a well-rounded, detail-oriented approach to player development, recruiting, and offensive strategy. Known for his energy, creativity, and commitment to excellence, he is a strong addition to the Golden Eagles coaching staff as Brockport continues to build on its success in the Empire 8 Conference.
