Matt Smith

Matthew Smith joined the Golden Eagles coaching staff in 2020. Currently, Coach Smith's primarily roles include player development, recruiting and scouting.

Smith was a three-year player (2015-2017) at SUNY Brockport where he played for Coach Dunne, Coach Clarke and Coach Johnston. He played in 78 games throughout his career as a Golden Eagle.

Smith graduated from Northport High School on Long Island where he was a three-year varsity basketball starter. Smith was team captain for Northport’s Long Island Championship team in 2013. Smith was named All-Tournament MVP, as well as being named All-Conference and All-League in his senior season.

Smith became a walk-on at Binghamton University in his freshman year (2014). Then transferred to SUNY Brockport for his remaining college career.

Smith graduated from SUNY Brockport in May of 2017 with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Forensic Science. After graduation, Matt moved to China to coach at the Grassroots level in Guangzhou and Beijing.

After returning to the U.S., Smith became an Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball team at St. Joseph’s College (LI). In his one season at St. Joseph’s College (LI), Smith helped develop scouting reports, played a large role in player development and helped in all aspects of recruiting.

Smith is now working towards his Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration while serving as an assistant coach for his alma mater.
