Changed The Game:
Steve Pike joined The College at Brockport as the head volleyball coach in the spring of 2013. In just three seasons as Brockport’s head coach, Pike transformed the Golden Eagles from the bottom of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) to the top – leading Brockport to its first SUNYAC title since 1994 and eighth conference championship overall in 2017. In the 2015 and 2016 seasons alone, Pike coached the Golden Eagles to the most successful record and the deepest run in school history.
Lucky Number Three:
Pike quickly improved the Brockport program, posting a record setting year in 2015 as his team finished with the best record in NCAA Division III at 34-2. Under Pike’s tutelage, the Golden Eagles record of 34-2, not only set the record for the highest winning percentage in school history, but the .944 mark also led the nation in 2015. The Golden Eagles also won their first SUNYAC title in 20 years and advanced to the second round of NCAA Regionals. Coach Pike turned that run into three straight SUNYAC titles (2015, 2016, 2017), and three straight NCAA appearances. Brockport Volleyball has also produced 15 All-Americans and 80 All-Conference picks in the program’s history.
Turning The Tide:
After a tough transition year in 2018, Pike led the Golden Eagles to yet another SUNYAC Championship and NCAA appearance in the 2019 season. Pike continues to set the bar high, having reached four SUNYAC Championships and four NCAA appearances in his seven years with the Golden Eagles. In addition, Pike picked up his 150th win as head coach at Brockport, was named SUNYAC Coach of the Year, and led yet another athlete to a SUNYAC Tournament MVP selection, AVCA All-Region selection and AVCA All-American Honorable Mention.
Individual Accolades:
Pike's success continues to speak for itself - in seven seasons with the Golden Eagles, Pike has amassed three SUNYAC Coach of the Year Selections (15',16' & 19') in addition to being named Northeast Region and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Volleyball Coach of the Year.
Where It All Started:
Pike joined Brockport’s staff in 2013 after a very successful tenure within the SUNYAC at Potsdam. Pike was the head coach of the Bears for 11 seasons after working his way up from an assistant coach position. During his 11 seasons at Potsdam, Pike was awarded the SUNYAC Coach of the Year award in 2005. He has carried on a streak with Brockport that he started in Potsdam in which at least one player on every team he has coached has earned All-Conference honors.
During his time leading the Bears’ volleyball team, he held the most victories and best winning percentage amongst his Potsdam peers. He was also named by Potsdam’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the Coach of the Year in 2006, also coaching two SUNYAC Rookie of the Year award winners in back-to-back seasons, in 2007 and again in 2008.
Outside of Coaching:
In addition to his career at Brockport, Pike has worked at the USA National Camp as an assistant coach for several years. He works with the USA Volleyball High Performance’s top Pipeline Coaches to coach some of the nation’s top 12-15 year olds. Pike has been a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) since 1999.
