Senior Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY/Fairport) has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 3. Malone placed second during the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Cross Country Championships in Brockport this Saturday.

Brockport played host to the SUNYAC Cross Country Championships this past weekend and Malone made herself right at home. From the initial shot of the starter’s gun, she was in a battle with a pack of Geneseo Knights.

Somewhere along the course Malone lost a shoe and was not deterred as she continued stride for stride with the pack of Geneseo Knights. About halfway through the course it became evident that the individual race was between only two women. Malone put forth a valiant effort finishing in 22:08.9, just 10 seconds behind the leader.

Malone broke up a clean sweep for the Knights as she was the only runner from the top six to place not from Geneseo. Her 5:57 per mile pace led Brockport to a fifth place finish amongst the 10 SUNYAC cross country teams.

Next up for cross country is the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Nov. 15 at the University of Rochester.
