Senior pitcher Jeffrey Prouse (Eden, ONT/Glendale) has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 27. Prouse nearly threw nine perfect innings for The College at Brockport Baseball team during the week over the span of two games, helping Brockport secure a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament bid as the No. 3 seed.
It all started with the first save of Prouse’s Golden Eagle career in a big win against SUNYAC opponent Fredonia on Tuesday. He entered the game in relief for the Golden Eagles in the eighth inning as Brockport clung to a one run lead. He threw two straight perfect innings while striking out two in Brockport’s 4-3 win.
In another big game for Brockport, with SUNYAC Tournament implications on the line, Prouse nearly threw a perfect complete game (besides a runner reaching base on a passed ball strike out in the second inning). He threw six straight innings without allowing a single hit or granting a base on balls before New Paltz got its first hit of the game - an infield single - with two outs in the last frame. Prouse exited the game before the last out of the game having struck out nine Hawk batters. On the week he threw eight and two thirds innings allowing one hit, no walks and striking out 11 while finishing the week with a win and a save!
The Golden Eagles travel to Cortland this weekend for the SUNYAC Playoffs, which are a four-team double elimination style. Brockport faces Oswego in its first game on Friday at 3:30 pm.
Brockport also has two nonconference home games scheduled during the week as it faces Rochester tomorrow at 4:30 pm and RIT on Wednesday at 4 pm.
