Five Golden Eagles Named Preseason All-Americans

Adam Lanctot and Nate Bowerman Earn Third Team Honors

BROCKPORT, NY Don Hansens Football Gazette announced its preseason All-American selections for the 2006 season and five SUNY Brockport players earned honors from the small college football newsletter and website.

Senior kicker Adam Lanctot ( Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) was a third-team selection after winning third team honors from the same publication at the end of the 2005 season. He was joined on the third-team by senior defensive tackle Nate Bowerman ( Farmington, NY/Victor).

Lanctot set an Atlantic Central Football Conference (ACFC) record with a 49-yard field goal late in the season and was 8-of-9 in field goal attempts for the season. He was also 23-of-24 in extra points. Bowerman was an ACFC First Team All-Star last year and anchors an experienced defensive front for the Golden Eagles in 2006. SUNY Brockport returns all four starters on the defensive line from last year.

The Golden Eagles also had three players earning honorable mention selection to the team. Junior offensive tackle Cuyler Groth ( Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) and senior tight end Mike Bond ( Fairport, NY/Fairport) were named to the honorable mention offensive team and senior defensive tackle Steve Marriott ( Fairport, NY/Fairport) made the team on the defensive side of the ball.

Groth is a 6-6, 325-pound offensive tackle that has drawn attention from NFL scouts in the offseason and is one of the five returning offensive linemen for the Golden Eagles. Bond is a valuable part of the offensive line and also had 21 catches and three touchdowns last season. Marriott led all defensive linemen with 47 tackles last season.

SUNY Brockport finished the 2005 season with a 5-5 record and a 4-1 mark in Atlantic Central Football Conference (ACFC) competition winning a share of the conference championship. The Golden Eagles open preseason practices on Thursday, August 17 and open the 2006 season on September 9 at Salisbury University. The home opener for SUNY Brockport is September 30 with a homecoming game against Ithaca College.
