BOXSCORE

Junior Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) scored 11 of Brockport's first 18 points, but it wasn't enough as The College at Brockport's men's basketball team fell to Fredonia 82-68 Tuesday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game inside Fredonia's Steele Hall.

Fredonia hit on 6 of its first 13 three-pointers and used an 18-6 run to start the second half. Green then went on another run, scoring eight straight points over a four-minute stretch. Fredonia took the lead for good, 46-44 on a three-pointer five minutes into the second half, and while the Golden Eagles got within four on several occasions in the second half, Brockport could draw no closer.

Green finished with 21 points, freshman Jon Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) added 13 points and junior Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) scored 11 points for the Golden Eagles, who could have moved into a first-place tie in the SUNYAC with a win.

Junior Kazeem Are (South Orange, NY/Columbia) made a layup to get Brockport (6-7 overall, 4-2 SUNYAC) within 73-68 with 2:43 remaining, but Fredonia (5-7, 2-4 SUNYAC) closed the game on a 9-0 run.

Brockport maintained a 38-31 halftime lead, but Fredonia answered back with an 10-1 run to open the second, and for the first time all game, Brockport trailed 41-39 with 16:24 remaining. Green then collected a loose ball, hit the layup while being fouled and finished the three-point play to put Brockport ahead 42-41, but on the ensuing possession, Fredonia retook the lead on a layup.

The Golden Eagles weren't able to find their shot, and Fredonia extended its lead to eight, 61-53 with 6:44 remaining in the game.

Senior Zack McTigue (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) hit a basket and Williams buried a big '3' to pull Brockport within six, 66-60, but Fredonia answered back with a layup for an eight-point lead.

The Golden Eagles were outrebounded 35-25 by Fredonia, and lost despite going 26 of 32 (81.3 percent) from the free throw line.

Brockport returns to action with a pair of home games this weekend. Brockport hosts Cortland at 8 p.m. Friday night and Oswego at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Both games take place inside the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
