Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) led The College at Brockport volleyball team with 33 kills in three matches, but the Golden Eagles were not able to muster a win at the Clarkson Invitational on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles (11-18) were matched up against some of the best teams in the area on Saturday, and they were able to hold their own.
They started the day with a match against Elmira (18-5) at 10 am, losing 3-0 with set scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-22. Freshman
Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) registered seven of her 12 kills on the day in the match against Elmira. She also tacked on 23 digs on Saturday.
Brockport faced Springfield College (23-1) in their next match, who was ranked 18th nationally as of Oct. 11. The Pride defeated Brockport 3-0, with set scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-12 en route to a 3-0 showing in the invitational.
The last match of the day for the Golden Eagles was against host Clarkson (22-3). The Golden Knights swept Brockport 3-0, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-6. Nowak turned in a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs against Clarkson. She finished the day with 33 kills and 18 digs to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
Nowak moved to third on the all-time list for career kills at Brockport. In four years as a Golden Eagle, Nowak has put the ball away 1,242 times.

Alex Stribing (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) tallied 13 kills and a team-high 31 digs on Saturday. Junior
Sarah Zelko (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) finished the day with 58 assists and freshman
Chelsea Ross (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) contributed 23 digs.
“We had an opportunity to play three of the best teams around us today and I thought we were competitive,” head coach Kelly Greapentrog said. “I thought we played good in stretches, but by the end of the day we ran out of gas.”
On Oct. 21 and 22, Brockport will host SUNYAC Pool Play. The Golden Eagles will take the court against Oswego and Geneseo on Friday, and Buffalo State in Fredonia on Saturday. The results will determine who qualifies for the SUNYAC Championships, which begin on Nov. 3.
