BOXSCORE
Kelly-Ann Henry (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) scored her 12th goal of the season to tie the score at 2-2 leading The College at Brockport Field Hockey team to a 4-2 victory over visiting Wells College Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game in Brockport.
The goal was also Henry's 27th career tally tying her with Amanda Pickard for second place on the all-time career goals list for the Golden Eagles. Her 12 goals in a season is good enough for a third place tie in the season goals list in the Brockport record book.
Brockport (9-7) needed to come from behind twice in the game as Wells (4-10) scored at the 11:38 mark in the game with a long pass up the middle for a shot from close range to take a 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, freshman
Abby Eschen (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) scored on a nice shot from the top of the arc to tie the score at 1-1.
The score remained tied at 1-1 until the second half when Wells took another lead scoring at the 22:50 mark of the period with a rebounded shot from in close for the 2-1 lead.
Two minutes later, Henry collected a short pass from Eschen in front of the cage and knocked home a goal to tie the score at 2-2.
After several consecutive Brockport penalty corners, the Golden Eagles finally took advantage as freshman
Nicole Atkins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) took a long pass from sophomore
Megan Usher (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and fired a shot into the corner of the cage to give the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead.
Another three minutes later, sophomore
Madison Buckley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) gave Brockport a cushion with her 11th goal of the season after she collected a loose ball in front of the cage and fired a shot under the goalie's pads for the 4-2 Golden Eagle lead.
Brockport controlled the play for a majority of the game and held a commanding 35-7 advantage in shots and had 22 penalty corners compared to four for Wells. The Golden Eagles had a 14-1 advantage in penalty corners in the second half alone.
Junior
Kasey Schreiner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) made three saves for the Golden Eagles.
Brockport is off until Oct. 29 with a road game against Rochester and then finishes the regular season on the road Nov. 1 against Houghton College.
