Box Score
Freshman Lance Legister (Staten Island, NY/Millbrook) scored a team-high 14 points and junior Derek Klein (Valley Stream, NY/Long Island Lutheran) added nine points on three 3-pointers to help The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team trim a 15-point lead down to three points late in the second half. The comeback effort fell short as Plattsburgh posted a 74-67 victory in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Saturday afternoon in Memorial Hall at Plattsburgh.
Legister's 14 points led the Golden Eagles (2-7 Overall, 1-2 SUNYAC) while Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) and Donnell Jackson (Rochester, NY/East) each scored 11 points with Williams leading Brockport with nine rebounds.
Brockport led most of the first half but a late run by Plattsburgh (4-5, 2-3) left the score tied at 30-30 as the teams headed to the locker rooms for the halftime intermission.
In the second half, Brockport stayed within striking distance and trailed 39-36 after Legister hit a layup with 15:52 to play in the half.
For the next five minutes, the Cardinals went on a 12-0 run stretching the lead to 51-36 before Klein hit the first of three 3-pointers to stop the run and start the Brockport comeback.
A Klein steal led to a fast break dunk by Jackson cutting the lead to just three points at 63-60 with 2:29 remaining but Brockport could not close the gap as Plattsburgh answered with a three-point play and hit free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
The game was the final contest of the semester for the Brockport men who do not play again until January 3 at St. Lawrence University.
