BOXSCORE

The B in Brockport could have stood for balanced the way The College at Brockport's men's basketball team played Friday night against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival New Paltz.

Five different Golden Eagles reached double-figures in scoring, and sophomore Derek Klein (Valley Stream, NY/Long Island Lutheran) stuffed the stat sheet with 9 points, 9 assists and 6 steals as Brockport (12-9 overall, 10-4 SUNYAC) rolled New Paltz 80-61 inside the Hawk Center.

Senior Zack McTigue (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) and junior Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) each scored a team-high 14 points while junior Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and senior Francisco Lantigua (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) added 12 points apiece.

Freshman Jon Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) gave Brockport four starters in double-figures as he chipped in 10 points as the Golden Eagles picked up their fifth consecutive win to move into a tie for second place with Plattsburgh (14-7, 10-4) in the SUNYAC standings. The Golden Eagles own the tiebreaker with Plattsburgh after Brockport swept the season-series with the Cardinals for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

The top eight squads qualify for the SUNYAC postseason tournament, and with four SUNYAC games remaining, Brockport trails No. 1 Oswego (18-3, 13-1) by three games. Oswego has won 11 straight contests.

Ivy scored four points and Green, Williams and freshman Dorian Hayden (East Northport, NY/Northport) each added baskets as Brockport used a 10-3 first-half run to seize control and lead 29-15 with 6:52 remaining before halftime.

Williams, a member of the d3hoops national Team of the Week, drained a '3' late in the half as the Golden Eagles took a 36-21 advantage into halftime. Green scored eight points, Klein and Williams added seven apiece and Ivy and McTigue each had six in the first half for Brockport. Klien added five first-half assists for the Golden Eagles.

In the second half, a pesky New Paltz team hung around and sliced the Golden Eagle edge to just four points, 54-50, when Harris Winchard buried a '3' with 8:56 remaining.

But McTigue and Lantigua each scored six points, Williams had five and Hayden added four points as Brockport responded with a 26-9 run to finish off the Hawks. Sophomore E.J. Parry (Lynbrook, NY/Long Island Lutheran) capped the spurt by drilling a three-pointer with 45 seconds left to give Brockport an 80-59 lead.

The Golden Eagles return to action with a 4 p.m. game Saturday against Oneonta.
