The College at Brockport's men's and women's basketball teams will begin their quests for State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) postseason championships Tuesday night.
The Golden Eagle men (13-12 Overall, 11-7 SUNYAC) are seeded fourth in the SUNYAC tournament, and will play host to No. 5 seed Oneonta (9-16, 8-10) at 7 p.m. Tuesday night inside the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
Brockport split the regular-season series with the Red Dragons, winning 61-57 at home on Jan. 14, 2011 behind 20 points and four steals from junior
Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) and 11 points, 6 blocks, 4 rebounds and 3 steals from junior
Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman).
Brockport fell at Oneonta 76-68 on Feb. 12 despite getting 28 points from Williams and 11 points apiece from freshman
Jon Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) and senior
Zack McTigue (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora).
Ivy scored a career-high 22 points during Brockport's 66-60 win over Cortland in the regular-season finale Saturday afternoon. He is averaging 18.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game over his last three contests, and the guard has reached double-figures in scoring in 13 of Brockport's last 15 games. Ivy has made 53 percent of his shots from the floor over his last eight games (44 for 84).
The Golden Eagles and Red Dragons last met up in the SUNYAC tournament during the 2007-08 season, with Brockport emerging with a 77-70 victory. Brockport is 4-1 all-time vs. Oneonta in the SUNYAC tournament, including four consecutive wins.
The winner of Brockport/Oneonta advances into Friday night's semifinals against the winner of No. 1 Oswego vs. No. 8 Potsdam. The SUNYAC championship game is at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Brockport's women (6-19, 4-13) received the No. 8 seed in the SUNYAC tournament, and will travel to face top-seeded Geneseo (22-3, 17-1) at 7 p.m. Tuesday night.
Sophomore
Sarah Alwardt (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) leads the Golden Eagles in both scoring (9.4 points per game) and rebounding (8 rpg.) Sophomore
Ellen Story (Catskill, NY/Catskill) scored a career-high 21 points against Buffalo State, and is averaging 11.9 points per game over her last nine games.
Brockport and Geneseo last met in the SUNYAC tournament during the 2001-02 season, when the Golden Eagles defeated the Knights 68-64 in the quarterfinals. Brockport owns a 1-2 record all-time against Geneseo in the SUNYAC tournament.
