Junior Mike McSweeney (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) scored late in the third quarter to cap a five-goal quarter for The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team and give the Golden Eagles a 7-5 lead but Morrisville responded with three fourth-quarter goals to escape with an 8-7 victory Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
With 6:32 to play in the fourth quarter, Morrisville (2-0) tied the game with a goal off a fast break transition play after a missed shot at the other end of the field for Brockport was quickly turned around and forced the play down the field.
Three minutes later in the first few seconds of a man-up opportunity for the Mustangs, a shot by Morrisville was deflected high into the air and goalie Jon Fiorillo (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) seemed to lose sight of the ball and started behind the net. The ball bounced back in front of the Brockport goal where it was slapped in by Adam Lewis in a cluster of players moving toward the goal.
Late in the game, Brockport had an offensive rush with a chance to tie the game but a shot by senior Matt Andon-McLane (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) was saved and Morrisville moved the ball into the offensive end to seal the victory.
Fiorillo finished with 13 saves and scoring for Brockport was Andon-McLane with two goals and one assist,
Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and
Nate Thomas (Cortland, NY/Cortland) with a goal and an assist each,
Andy Hilton (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili),
Mike Tammaro (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) and McSweeney with one goal each.
