BOXSCORE
Athletes tend to play their best games at home. Playing in front of a home crowd can allow an athlete to feed off of the school's faithful fans while playing in a familiar environment.
For Brockport sophomore
Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam), one of the best games of her young career was not played on The College at Brockport's campus, but rather in her own backyard. A native of Potsdam, Maguire tied a career-high with four goals and led an explosive Brockport women's lacrosse attack to a convincing 17-8 win over the Bears Saturday on Maxcy Hall Turf Field in Potsdam.
In the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener for both schools, Maguire scored two goals in each half to help the Golden Eagles (3-2 Overall, 1-0 SUNYAC) to their third straight win, and second straight road win.
Brockport's 17 goals are the most scored since a 20-15 romp over Buffalo State on May 8, 2010.
Sophomore
Stephanie Toomey (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) tied a career high with three-goals, matching her output from the March 16, 2011 contest against Connecticut College.
Senior
Dayna Piraino (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) tied a career-high with five assists, including four first-half helpers. Junior
Karen Bianchi (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) also added three goals for the Golden Eagles.
Brockport outshot Potsdam (4-5, 0-1) 21-7 advantage in the first half and 33-21 for the game. The Golden Eagles also held a 15-12 advantage on draw controls and caused 26 Potsdam turnovers.
Toomey staked Brockport to a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds in off a feed from Piraino. Senior
Amanda Massmann (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot), Maguire and sophomore
Sarah Brown (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) all scored unassisted goals in the first five minutes of play to give the Golden Eagles a quick 4-1 lead.
Brown finished the game with two goals and three assists and upped her season-long totals to 13 goals and eight assists, both team-highs.
With Potsdam trailing 6-4, Brockport rattled off four goals during a three-minute stretch late in the half, culminated with Toomey's goal with 2:51 remaining. Piraino had three assists during the spurt for Brockport.
Freshman
Alyssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) opened the second half with her sixth goal 5:13 into the half and Bianchi scored back-to-back goals 1:04 apart to push the Brockport lead to 13-6.
Brown, Toomey and Maguire all added goals as Brockport's lead extended to 16-6, and Maguire finished off the Golden Eagle scoring with 4:26 remaining.
Senior
Jamie Kaminsky (Oakdale, NY/Sayville) made seven saves for the win.
Brockport returns to action with a 4 p.m. home game Tuesday afternoon against SUNYAC rival Cortland.
