Titles Aplenty for Outdoor Track and Field

Brockport athletes win nine events at Hamilton Invitational

Stephanie Powell was one of several Brockport athletes to post ECAC-qualifying performances at Hamilton College.

The College at Brockport's outdoor track and field team opened the 2011 season on the road at the Hamilton College Continental Invitational, and several Golden Eagles posted Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship-qualifying performances during Saturday's meet.
 
Senior Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) captured the hammer throw with a heave of 53.95 meters. He provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III national championships with the performance.
 
Sophomore Joe Mussler (Hamlin, NY/Hilton) won the 110 hurdles and qualified for ECAC's with his time of 15.41 seconds.
 
Brockport's 4-by-100 relay team of senior Khalil Jones (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), junior Eric Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside), senior Cameron Johnson (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and junior Zach Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside) also posted an ECAC-qualifying time (43.62)
 
On the women's side, sophomore Nicole Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway) captured the shot put title, throwing 12.61 meters to post an ECAC-qualifying performance. Senior Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) also qualified for ECAC's by winning the hammer throw (45.58 meters).

On Monday, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) honored Jones as the conference's Female Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Senior Brittany Dodd (Livonia, NY/Webster Thomas) finished second in the 100 hurdles and posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 15.82 seconds.
 
Among the rest of the meet's highlights: Brockport's 4-by-100 meter relay team of Dodd, senior Melissa Scorse (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon), freshman Alissa Kozakiewicz (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and freshman Caitlin Moeller (Kingston, NY/Onteora) won the relay in 53.01 seconds.
 
Sophomore Carly Chefalo (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) won the high jump (1.52 meters) while Scorse claimed the 100 meter title (13.05 seconds).
 
Freshman Kristine Hoover (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) placed second in the shot (11.26 meters), freshman Justine Ward (Gouverneur, NY/Gouverneur) was second in the high jump (1.52 meters), and freshman Kelly Burke (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:10.53).
 
Freshman Nate Matthews (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) won the 800 meters in 1:59.58 while Lund was second in the shot (14.16 meters) and Johnson was second in the 400 hurdles (57.31).
 
Brockport's outdoor track and field teams return to action at 10 a.m. April 9 when the Golden Eagles compete in the University of Rochester Invitational.
