The College at Brockport's men's and women's lacrosse teams will wrap up the regular season with a home doubleheader as part of Saturday's Senior Day festivities.
The Golden Eagle women (8-5 overall, 5-2 State University of New York Athletic Conference) will face Oneonta at 1 p.m. while the Golden Eagle men (5-7, 2-3 SUNYAC) will face Oswego at 3:30 p.m. Both games will take place on Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium
Brockport's men's lacrosse team is looking to clinch the program's first-ever berth in the SUNYAC tournament, and the Green and Gold will qualify for the playoffs with a win and a Plattsburgh loss to No. 1 seed Cortland.
The Golden Eagle men have won two straight SUNYAC games, including Saturday's thrilling 14-13 come-from-behind win over Oneonta. In that game, senior
Mike Tammaro (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) tied a school-record with nine points and handed out a school-record seven assists as Brockport rallied from a 7-1 deficit. The Golden Eagles used a 10-2 scoring spurt to seize control, and benefitted from a career-high five goals from sophomore
Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa).
The Green and Gold will honor the outstanding careers of nine seniors before the Oswego game: Tammaro,
Matt Astolfi (Painted Post, NY/Corning West),
Jay Bailer (Syracuse, NY/Marcellus),
Kyle Crosley (Homer, NY/Homer),
Jon Fiorillo (Painted Post, NY/Corning West),
Mike Sanderson (Canton, NY/H.C. Williams),
Justin Tierney (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker),
Kenny Williams (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) and
Andy Hilton (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili).
Cortland has already clinched the No. 1 seed while Potsdam currently sits in second place. If the Golden Eagles defeat Oswego and Plattsburgh loses at Cortland, Brockport would earn the No. 4 seed on the strength of a tiebreaker, as Brockport defeated Plattsburgh 11-10 at home on April 16. If Plattsburgh defeats Cortland, Brockport would miss out on the playoffs.
The Golden Eagle women currently sit in third place in the SUNYAC standings, with the top four squads advancing to the SUNYAC tournament, which runs May 6-7. Brockport can finish no worse than the fourth seed.
A win over the Red Dragons keeps the Green and Gold alive for the third seed. Brockport needs to defeat Oneonta and hope Geneseo loses to Cortland to clinch the No. 3 seed. If both Brockport and Geneseo win, or if both schools lose, Brockport would be the No. 3 seed, since the Golden Eagles own the tiebreaker after beating Geneseo 12-9 on April 12. If Geneseo wins and Brockport loses, the Golden Eagles get the No. 4 seed, with Buffalo State taking No. 2 and Geneseo being the No. 3 seed.
The top four teams advance into the SUNYAC tournament, which runs May 6 and 7, 2011.
