RESULTS

Sophomores Nicole Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway) and Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) each broke school records Saturday at the Roberts Wesleyan College Open meet as Jones eclipsed the shot put record and Ferrara increased the pole vault record for The College at Brockport Track & Field teams.

Jones won the shot put with a heave of 42 feet, ½ inch which was not only a school record but earned her a provisional spot in the field for the NCAA Championships in May. She also placed second in the discus with an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship qualifying mark of 119' 11”.

Jones captured a shot put title for the fifth time this outdoor season, and Jones also placed second in the discus and fifth in the hammer throw for the Golden Eagles.

On Monday, Jones earned the State University of New York Athletic Conference's (SUNYAC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week. It is Jones' third time claiming the SUNYAC's top Field Athlete of the Week honors in the last five weeks.

Ferrara was the top finisher in the pole vault for the men clearing a height of 15' 5” which was also an ECAC qualifying mark.

The two ECAC qualifiers were just a couple of the 14 ECAC marks met by Brockport athletes on the day. Melissa Scorse (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) qualified in the 100-meter dash, Brittany Dodd (Livonia, NY/Webster Thomas) was a qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles, both Carly Chefalo (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) and Justine Ward (Gouverneur, NY/Gouverneur) earned spots in the championship in the high jump, Becky Fabbiano (Lockport, NY/Lockport) qualified in the pole vault and Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) cleared the ECAC qualifying mark in the hammer throw.

For the men, Khalil Jones (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) earned the ECAC mark in the 100-meter dash, Nate Matthews (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) was a qualifier in the 800-meter run, Brad Frink (Canastota, NY/Canastota) earned a spot in the 1500-meter run, Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) was the top finisher and qualified in the 10,000-meter run and senior Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) cleared the qualifying marks in both the shot put and discus. He also cleared the mark in the hammer throw but has already earned NCAA Championship provisional status in that event.

Additional place finishers for Brockport included Josh Coon (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and Casey Ross (Ballston Lake, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) who finished second and third respectively in the 10K race, Melissa Wassink (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) who won the 1500-meter run, Kelly Burke (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa Park) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles and Stacey Gibbins (Eden, NY/Eden) was third in the discus.
