Maguire's Career Game Lifts Women's Lax

Sophomore scores career-high six goals in 19-11 romp

Kaila Maguire scored a career-high six goals as Brockport routed New Paltz 19-11.

Sophomore Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) scored a career-high six goals and The College at Brockport's women's lacrosse team scored a season-high seven free-position goals during Saturday afternoon's 19-11 romp of New Paltz.
 
It was the highest goal output of 2011 for Brockport, and the most goals since a 20-15 victory over Buffalo State on May 7, 2010.
 
Maguire scored four first-half goals and added two in the second half while sophomore Sarah Brown (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) scored four goals with three assists for seven points, one point shy of her career high of eight, set during a 29-5 rout of New Paltz on April 2, 2010.
 
Junior Dayna Piraino (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) added two goals and two assists, junior Carly Motondo (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) had two goals and an assist and freshman Alyssa Scordo (Watertown, NY/South Jefferson) and junior Karen Bianchi (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) added two goals apiece for Brockport (4-3 overall, 2-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference).
 
The Green and Gold finished 7 for 13 on free-position shots, with Maguire scoring five of her goals on free-position shots. Brockport also fired a season-high 43 shots with 27 shots on goal, one shy of the 2011 single-game high. Bianchi also scooped up a career-high six ground balls.
 
Maguire set the tone early for the Golden Eagles. Her first free-position goal came just 46 seconds in for a 1-0 lead.
 
New Paltz (5-4, 0-2 SUNYAC) tied the score 17 seconds later , and it was tied at two-all before Brown, Maguire and Bianchi all scored during a span of 1:29 to stake Brockport to a 5-2 lead.
 
The Hawks pulled within 5-3 with 18:40 remaining in the half before Brockport went on another scoring run. Piraino, Bianchi and Maguire all scored while the Golden Eagles' defense held New Paltz scoreless over a 12:23 span to take a 8-3 lead.
 
Maguire and Motondo added goals a minute apart late in the half for a 10-5 edge before New Paltz tacked on a late goal to pull within 10-6 heading into the second half.
 
After New Paltz got within 12-9, Maguire and Scordo responded with goals. Leading 14-11, Brockport scored the final five goals as Brown scored three consecutive goals and Scordo and sophomore Stephanie Toomey (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) each added a goal during the run.
 
Senior Jamie Kaminsky (Oakdale, NY/Sayville) stopped three shots for the win.
 
Brockport returns to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, when the Golden Eagles travel to Geneseo for a SUNYAC contest.
